Electroforming is a complex process involving running an electrical current through a chemical bath in order to plate an object with copper. This process is highly involved, all of our pieces remain in the chemical bath for a minimum of 24 hours, to allow for a sturdy plate. There are many variables that factor into running and maintaining an electroforming bath, which makes this medium both challenging and rewarding.
Each piece receives a patina wash after it is removed from the chemical bath, which changes the bright color of the copper to a darker, aged, look. Occasionally the patina process can even result in a rainbow effect!
After the patina process this piece was sealed with a chemical varnish to lengthen the life of the patina, which is subject to change throughout time.
Copper is a unique metal which reacts with the PH balance of the human body and may result in a “green ghost” effect. This is completely normal and varies from person to person. This “green halo” is easily removed using soap and water. In addition the color or patina of copper is subject to change over time as it is exposed to skin, natural oils, and day to day life.
Every piece is entirely unique and handcrafted with great care and attention to detail, both in composition and execution of the process. This being said these pieces are not meant to be twisted, bent, dropped, or otherwise mistreated. In the best interest of the longevity of your new piece, avoid contact with water (swimming/showering), remove before bed, and store in a dry, safe space.
